Dragon Dreaming is like an open-source tool-box: Many well-known and established methods have gone into the process of creating it – and anyone can develop it further. If you do, we would love to hear your experiences and your feedback.

This is intended as a guide to Dragon Dreaming courses that are available.  In individual cases shorter courses, with less content, may be offered on a case by case basis.  It is highly recommended that until one has more than 10,000 hours of offering trainings (i.e. more than 5 years experience) that trainers, wherever possibly co-facilitate, with both a male and female presenter.  Unless otherwise specified, it is recommended that the minimum number in a course be ten participants.  A Dream Team of not less than 4 people is highly recommended in organising any of these courses, and if possible fees are otherwise covered, these people can attend at no financial cost, as their work has paid for their attendance.  Fees are calculated on an hourly rate, where the number of contact hours represents 1/5th of the total work of the facilitators – with 3 hours of preparation and 1 hour of follow up for each course contact hour.

The rate of fees charged is determined by an hourly formula based upon the national Gross Domestic Product per hour per capita.  Variations in this rate are permissible upon sharing the reasons for the variation with the team of Dragon Dreaming facilitators in one’s country.  Ten percent of a trainer’s earnings should be donated to a project of the trainer’s choice and announced at the end of the gathering.

It is recommended that a fixed fee per person is charged, with the stipulation that those wishing to do a program and having difficulty meeting the costs should contact project organisers as soon as possible with the view to receiving a variation.  In which case special fundraising events can be organised, reduced fees for work done, or where possible bursary or scholarship prices can be offered.  The general principle is that no motivated person should be excluded from training for lack of finance.  It is commitment which is the key.

Anyone can use Dragon Dreaming. It is,however, not only made up of theory, but rather consists of the actual practical experience. Around the world there are now about 177 qualified Dragon Dreaming trainers. They can support you by offering

Dragon Dreaming Introduction Course

In the 2.5 day-long Introduction-workshop you will learn the basics of Dragon Dreaming and will practice on the basis of exemplary projects.

Dragon Dreaming serves individuals, organisations and communities, in developing outrageously successful sustainable projects, using the powers liberated from our collective intelligence in such a way, that all participants are able to identify themselves completely with the project. Dragon Dreaming projects serve the wellbeing and flourishing of all life, strengthen the communities of which we are a part, and through personal growth, encourage the discovery that we have potentials greater than we know. During the four project stages of Dreaming, Planning, Doing and Celebration, a playful approach is used in order to access our full collective wisdom. It draws inspiration from Australia’s aboriginal people, the latest scientific discoveries, Living Systems Theory, and Deep Ecology.  The process gives high value to every stakeholder’s deepest visions and motivation, so our collective synergies can unleash their full effect.

Dragon Dreaming Empowered Fundraising

Successful projects need a stable economic basis. And yet fundraising is sabotaged by a deep, multigenerational wound about money created by our win-lose culture.  From this, our current economy is based upon a model that believes

  • There is not enough
  • More is better
  • That is the way it is, we have no choice

These false beliefs limit our effectiveness as fundraisers.  Empowered fundraising overcomes these limiting beliefs, inspires and enables us as participants to create the funds necessary to implement our projects in line with our values and visions. Primarily this is about building relationships with others and offering them the gift of participating in projects which add meaning to their lives. The healing of our relationship to money is the basis of this work. With Empowered Fundrasing we can succeed in building an economy of sustainability and mutual respect.

At the completion of this workshop participants will have

  1. Discovered the source of our wound about money and fundraising
  2. Have discovered the basis of the gift economy, through the gift of leading a meaningful life

Dragon Dreaming Building an Empty Centred Organisation

We are currently trying to solve problems of the 21st century using incorporated organisational structures like associations, cooperatives and companies, which were developed in the 19th century. Not only does this create difficulties to resolve these current problems, but more often than not these structures have become part of the problem. This workshop demonstrates new solutions with the methods of Dragon Dreaming, Learning Systems Theory, Chaordic Principles, Sociocracy and Scenario Building.  Participants will learn how to build an empty centred organisation, identifying project stakeholders, project goals, objectives and principles, building protocols of communication and key performance indicators.

Dragon Dreaming Bridges to the Future

All of us are forever caught between where we have come from and where we are going.  For some the gap is narrow and easy to cross, but for others the gap is wide, difficult to cross and very threatening.  This is true of us as individuals, but it is also true of the international industrial growth society, of which we are a part, that at the moment is doing damage to the life support systems of the planet, while considering this is human progress.  Even though this situation has become “normal”, such a culture has not got long to survive.  Where do we find the resources necessary to build a bridge across this gap, that inspires and motivates us to make the changes necessary.

At the completion of this workshop participants will have

Dragon Dreaming – Thinking Like a Mountain: Deep Time and the Ecological Self

To fully understand the nature of Dragon Dreaming it helps immensely to understand the nature of the Work that Reconnects, the problem of our times, the nature of the Great Turning and the dangers of the Great Unravelling, from which Dragon Dreaming springs.  In a real sense it is emotional suppression which is the source of apathy and personal ineffectiveness. This workshop affirms our fundamental interconnectedness with each other, the Earth and reconnects us to the vast expanses of deep time from which we come and into which we are going. This involves a combining of the mystical with the practical and the pragmatic, transcending dualistic separateness, alienation, and fragmentation.

Experiential Deep Ecology processes and guided meditations, developed by Joanna Macy, will help us to heal our wounds and enable us to reinhabit time. With a healthier relationship to time we will have the opportunity to slow down, attuning to longer rhythms of the Ecological Self, which allows us to experience life in a saner fashion.

It demonstrates how through Experiential Deep Ecological exercises, we can recover our lost Ecological Selves.

At the completion of this workshop the participants will have

  • Recovered our connection with past and future generations
  • Discovered sources of strength and inspiration from the far past and the far future
  • Been filled with new determination and perseverance
  • Experienced a deepening identification with the Earth.
  • Obtained a renewal of energy to work for our own individual and collective healing.

Outcome: A truer understanding of what the Dragon Dreaming Principle of what “Service to the Earth” really means

Total Training: 20 hours contact

Requirement: Attendance at a Council of All Beings or other Work that Reconnects is suggested but is not essential.  A residential workshop is essential.  Payment of course fees.

Dragon Dreaming – Empowering Businesses for the 21st Century

Our current conventional models of a business enterprise, maximising only the endless accumulation of profit, not only are socially and environmentally irresponsible, but are actively damaging the natural environment on which all life depends, and destroying the communities necessary to maintain our humanity.  But alternatives are possible.  Through an analysis of the history of business organisations we can discover the nature of Community Enterprise Strategic Partnerships that empower businesses to work in harmony with the life of the human and ecological communities of which they are a part, to solve problems which are otherwise impossible to resolve.  Participants will discover participatory ways of being able to include all stakeholders in improving the effectiveness of their businesses in a win-win fashion.

At the completion of this workshop, participants will have

  1. Uncovered the false nature of conventional business profitability
  2. A better understanding of the economic history of globalisation of business enterprises
  3. Understood the nature of a Community Enterprise Strategic Partnership

Dragon Dreaming – Overcoming Blockages in Projects

Dragon Dreaming workshops are usually held in advance of the “Doing” stage of a project, and thus tend to focus on the Pre-Forming, Forming and Norming Stages of a project (in the Dreaming and Planning phases).  In looking at the Storming, Performing and Transforming Stages (in the Doing and Celebration phases) the workshops tend to be theoretical preparations for what should be done.  But no project goes according to plan.  Dragons abound, you do not need to go looking for the areas outside your comfort zone, in every project, they will come looking for you.  The degree to which you understand your blockages and the blockages will determine how well you can dance with these dragons, liberating your power as you do so.  This workshop, developed with the help of Gestalt therapist Lizandra Barbuto of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, will help you understand the sources of blockage at different levels and in different contexts and give you the skills necessary to de-block projects when such blockages occur.

At the completion of the workshop participants will have

  1. Learned of their personal and individual source of blockages in projects and experienced the effects of blockage in awareness of their bodily experience and their emotional state
  2. Found how our win-lose culture automatically produces blockages as a result of fear and distrust, and discovered how this automatically produces destructive win-lose games
  3. Discovered psychologically, neurologically and anthropologically the sources of the separation upon which win-lose games depend, and the symptoms that appear at each step
  4. Learned of the different kinds of blockage that occurs as a result in the different phases and process stages of Dragon Dreaming, and discovered how to unblock
  5. Found ways to transcend the conflicts generated in blockage and be able to use this energy creatively in themselves individually, between themselves and the group, within groups and in taking group projects out to the world

Outcome: Participants of the workshop will be able to understand the ubiquity of why win-lose games are so prevalent in projects and organisations of all kinds.  As consultants, they will be able to help others diagnose where the blockage is occurring and provide a remedial program whereby which blockages can be removed.

Requirement: Attendance at a Dragon Dreaming Introduction or an Intensive Program, and to have completed a project either with or without using the Dragon Dreaming tools.  Residential venue preferred.  Payment of the appropriate fees.

Dragon Dreaming Conferencing for Groups of 50 or more

Dragon Dreaming has been used as a tool for working with town planners, architects, park landscapers, city developers, in urban renewal projects or major infrastructural projects, ensuring effective community participation and consultation in planning and implementation of new projects.

It is necessary that the Dream Team established for such a project first of all be involved in a series of preparatory meetings with the sponsors of such an event, to ensure adequate support, prior identification of any possible glitches or bottlenecks and to clarify mutual responsibilities.

The event should be planned from the start using Dragon Dreaming methods to ensure a win-win-win for all, the proponent sponsor, the facilitation team and the participants.  It may be necessary, therefore, to conduct a preliminary survey with key identified local decision makers and influential peoples to identify in advance any problems or challenges in advance, and identify the current community climate.

The event will involve a number of small group sessions, each with a trained facilitator, and an recorder, together with large group plenary sessions, designed to bring the group together to focus on emergent common issues.

At the Completion of the Exercise

  1. The community participants will have a heightened degree of confidence in the project proponents
  2. The wishes of the wider community can be fully incorporated into any project
  3. A number of local community members will have been trained in the methods of Dragon Dreaming
  4. A number of interested volunteers will have been identified to assist in the development of subsequent stages of the project

Outcome: A win-win-win for proponent sponsors, facilitators and community participants.

Requirements: That small group facilitators and recorders be identified and trained with Dragon Dreaming before the event, in the ratio of 1 each per group of 8 people.

Total Training: three possible 3 sessions of 8 hours.

Session 1: Preparation of small group participants

  • Introduction to Dragon Dreaming
  • The nature of the sessions planned (those drawn from the Dragon Dreaming Toolbox)
  • Practice session
  • Review, debrief and any follow up required

Session 2:  8-16 hours over one or two days

  • Presentation of the proposed project
  • Community based dream circles
  • Plenary report sessions
  • Regrouping by interests
  • Helps and Hinderances Session
  • Design of a Strategy – possible Karabirrdt
  • Plenary report sessions
